Viewing a long table which contains data which is spread vertically down becomes very difficult and can be very confusing to the end user who is trying to make some sense out of it.
This type long table can be structured and organized by dimensional value using breaks in the report. Breaks allow organizing the table by each distinct value of the column on which it was applied.
When break is applied web intelligence organizes the data by each value of the column on which break was applied and inserts a blank column after the each value which can later be used to show subtotal.
e.g. If you are viewing a report which shows Revenue by country and service line. It becomes very difficult to analyze the data if table is very long, However if we apply break on Country its much easy and also lets user the subtotal

- · You can display subtotal
Depending on the requirement you can apply two type of breaks
- · Vertical – Can be applied to columns
- · Horizontal – can be applied to rows
Crosstab can be applied both type of breaks. There are various break properties which you can use to format the block to make it more readable and easy for analysis using break, subtotal and break properties.
